Description:

The FinePix XP10 is the first in a new category of super-tough, ‘Four-Proof’ digital cameras – waterproof, freezeproof, shockproof and dustproof. Resulting from a redesign of Fujifilm’s best-selling FinePix Z33WP, the FinePix XP10 is an ergonomically “life proof” camera housed in a metal uni-body chassis with a tactile grip finish.

The FinePix XP10 sports a 12-megapixel CCD sensor, a 2.7-inch, high-contrast LCD for better viewing in bright sunlight and a high-precision, Fujinon 5x periscopic optical zoom lens with a reinforced protective lens barrier. The FinePix XP10 is only 21.7mm thin, and retains the chiselled design of a conventional compact camera.

Four-Way Protection
The FinePix XP10 is the ultimate lifestyle camera. You can drop it, soak it, freeze it, and even cover it in dirt, and this camera will come out unscathed. Not only is the FinePix XP10 waterproof up to 10 feet, but it is also shockproof up to 3 feet, freezeproof up to 14°F and dustproof, giving you total confidence that they can take it with them wherever they go, whatever they are doing, regardless of the conditions.

Easy Web Upload
Now a key consideration for the younger web-savvy generations, the FinePix XP10 features a new Facebook/YouTube Automatic Web Upload function that makes it much faster to post photos on social networking sites. While in playback mode, this feature allows users to ‘mark’ a picture for Facebook or You Tube upload. Then, once the FinePix XP10 is connected to a computer with Fujifilm’s MyFinePix Studio software (included), users upload their images and videos and the marked pictures and videos will automatically transfer to the selected site.

HD Capability
The FinePix XP10 also offers stunning movies in 720p with sound and high quality stills with one touch ease. Many consumers are happy to enjoy HD movies on their PC, but with the new HD Player (optional extra), which comes equipped with a remote control, families can gather around their home HDTV to enjoy amazingly detailed stills and high resolution movie playback.

Target Focus
Created specifically to capture an action shot, the Target Focus function tracks fast moving subjects so they don’t escape from the frame in a blur. Subjects will be tracked automatically for as long as it is kept in the frame and the shutter is half-pressed; when users fully press the shutter button your subject will be in the center of the photo in perfect focus.

Additional Features

  • Movie Editing Mode and Blog mode: Get creative and add finishing touches to videos and images, among others, you can choose from B&W, Sepia, or you can even add a dynamic lighting effect, all this in-camera.
  • Scene Recognition Auto (SR AUTO): This mode intelligently identifies the scene type and necessary shooting conditions to optimize picture perfect potential.
  • Face Detection and Automatic Red-eye Removal: To provide perfectly exposed and focused portrait shots, the FinePix XP10 is fitted with Fujifilm’s latest Face Detection technology which is able to track up to 10 faces simultaneously, at almost any angle to the camera. The system instantly corrects red-eye and then saves both the original and the corrected image file automatically.
  • Digital Image Stabilization: Reduces image blur and offers creative adaptability and excellent picture quality.
  • Li-ion rechargeable battery: The long-life rechargeable Li-ion battery (up to 200 shots) allows for extended use without worrying if the camera is going to last for the duration of the trip.

  • Fujifilm FinePix XP10 12 MP Waterproof Digital Camera with 5x Optical Zoom and 2.7-Inch LCD (Green) review by S. Greene (Palo Alto, CA):

I got this camera to replace my previous underwater / shockproof Canon D10, which died after about 8 months for no apparent reason. When I got the D10, it was the only low-cost point-and-shoot I could find for light underwater use, which made it good in its own way, but the electronics and sensor and etc. were already a couple of years out of date on the Canon, plus it was really big and bulky.

I don’t do serious underwater work, but do want a camera I can take out in the rain and occasionally in a swimming pool or to the beach, without worrying about it. Also with small kids, the likelihood of a camera getting dropped is high, so a sturdy model is key.

This little Fujifilm advertises the same kind of water- and shock-proof characteristics as the Canon, but it’s a whole lot more modern in its features, and a whole lot smaller, which is great. I haven’t used it underwater yet, but for everyday use it takes good pictures.

A few issues I have with it. One, the cable connector is nonstandard. It should be mini-USB, like so many other things – I keep a mini USB hanging off my computer anyway, and if I lose a mini USB cable it’s easy to find another, vs. the Fuji cable which doesn’t match anything else I own.

Second, the mechanics are not quite as polished as I’d like. The waterproof cover for the cable connector doesn’t seat well – it’s very hard to get in. And the battery cover has a strange hinge device that was confusing to figure out and I fear will not last well, since I have to open it frequently to extract the memory card, because the cable connector is nonstandard and hard to reseal.

All in all I would still recommend this camera, and I hope these few flaws get corrected in a future model.

This is the third P&S Finepix that I have owned. I have to say for durability, they are perfect. I only switched to newer FinePix cams because I wanted new ones…otherwise, the older ones made perfect pictures, were durable even after being dropped from 5-ft ht, despite being subjected to dust and oil (I am a foodblogger). The last one I owned before this was a 6MP finepix f10 and that had very great photos despite limited lighting; e.g., indoor lighting, nighttime (an improvement from the first 1.0 MP FinePix I owned). Natural lighting on daylight have always been crisp.

I bought this because of the waterproof, freezeproof features, as well as the stabilizing and the face detector. As I expected, photos are great. However, I was extremely disappointed with the photos I took of food, close up, under indoor lighting (I usually take photos of food at supper time). All yellowish…no matter what setting – party, night, natural, suppressed flash, macro, etc. All jaundiced! If I do use flower setting with natural daylight coming from the windows (not night time), no matter how dark it is in my kitchen/dining area, the photos look great. With f10, I just had to set on macro and suppress the flash even using artificial light (it enhances the light and the color) and I get clear photos of the food (with natural daylight from windows, I had to find a good angle to bring out great photos). I thought I could give my old cam to my son, but at least for purposes of foodblogging, I would still use it.

Also, the thing with the underwater setting, it would not set to macro (but it would suppress flash).

I will update more as I experience using this. I decided to keep this at least for outing, sightseeing purposes, etc. I will still use my 6MP FinePix f10 for foodblogging purposes.
